

Orlando (Andy) B. Andersland was born August 15, 1929 in Albert Lea, MN to Ole Andersland and Brita Økland. He passed away September 27, 2015, and is greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis, children Mark (Mary Susan Pruzinsky), John, Ruth Andersland (Carl Beckett), and grandchildren Michael, Matthew, and Lars Andersland and David, Grace, and Faith Beckett.
He earned his B.S. from the University of Minnesota, served as a 2nd Lt. in the Corps of Engineers in Korea, and then completed his M.S. and Ph.D. at Purdue University. He taught Civil Engineering at MSU for nearly 35 years, receiving the Distinguished Faculty Award in 1979. He was internationally known for his research and textbooks on the mechanical properties of frozen ground. Andy especially enjoyed his family, travel, visiting relatives in Norway, and improving his woodlot. A Memorial Service will be held at University Lutheran Church, 1020 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing on Friday, October 2nd at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Amor, Minnesota in summer 2016. Memorials may be given for MSU Civil Engineering scholarships at MSU College of Engineering 428 South Shaw Lane, Rm 3536 East Lansing, MI 48824 or to University Lutheran Church.
