Pat was born March 6, 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado. After twelve years of fighting the disease, she succumbed to carcinoid syndrome cancer in her East Lansing home on December 21, 2012.
Pat was educated in Pueblo, CO, received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and a Master’s of Humanities from Chadron State College in Chadron, NE. She taught elementary music in Gering, NE for thirteen years, served as president of the Nebraska Education Association 1984-1988, and was a uniserv and research consultant for the Michigan Education Association for nineteen years. She retired in 2007.
Pat pursued many interests; knitting, spinning, cut glass, golf, classical music, theater and technology. She was truly a consummate learner.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arlo and Mabel Richey. Surviving are her brother Lowell (Susan) Richey of Council Bluffs, IA; nephew Charles Richey of Council Bluffs; niece Heather (Tadd) Gabrielson of D’Iberville, MS and grand niece Peyton Gabrielson. She also leaves behind her “chosen sisters”, Mary Anne Adams of Okemos, MI and Beverly Wolkow of Mason, MI.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, 4:30 p.m. at the University Club of Michigan State University, 3435 Forest Road, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends 4-4:30 prior to the service and also, following the service.
