Peggy Ann Halpin (née Arnold), 92, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Friday, April 18th, 2025. Born on November 16, 1932, in Dimondale, Michigan. Peg lived a life filled with warmth, family, and cherished friendships.
Peg met her husband, Thomas Joseph “Joe” Halpin, at Coral Gables restaurant in 1955. They fell in love, married in 1957, and built a beautiful life together while raising their four children: Thomas Joseph Halpin II and his wife Lorraine (Maciag) Halpin of St. Joseph, MI; Michael Scott Halpin of Los Angeles, CA; Nancy Halpin McKearney and her husband John McKearney of Oro Valley, AZ; and Suzanne Lynn Halpin and her husband Brian O’Malley of Park Ridge, IL. Peg’s early years included working at an Oldsmobile plant in Lansing before dedicating herself to creating a home full of love and laughter. Once her children were in school, Peg began working at Wyeth Laboratories, where she continued for many years until retiring in 1990.
During her retirement, Peg stayed active and connected to her community with part-time work at The Breslin Center at Michigan State University, where she lovingly greeted fans as a ticket taker, knowing the name of every season ticket holder who entered through her gate. Always social, Peg worked at Dusty’s Cellar during the holiday’s making gift baskets and she also spent time working at Carousel Consignment, forming many close friendships along the way.
Peg had a passion for life that was contagious. She loved to bake and made the best cookies and pies, which she shared with neighbors, friends and family. An avid Spartans fan, along with her husband Joe, they were regulars at MSU football games and season ticket holders for the hockey team. She loved reading, bike riding, listening to music, dancing, and playing cards with friends while sipping a glass of wine. Whether humming a tune and dancing in the aisles of a department store or riding her bike on a brisk Michigan morning, Peg brought joy wherever she went.
Peg will be dearly missed by her family and is survived by her sister, Susan Smith of Las Vegas, NV; her four children; and her eight grandchildren; including Megan (Halpin) Armstrong and husband Jim Armstrong, Michael Halpin and wife Katie (Marchi) Halpin, Erin (Halpin) and husband Wes Young, Drew McKearney, Jack McKearney and Quinn McKearney, and Lily O'Malley and Rose O’Malley. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Violet and Matthew Halpin. Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Maxine Arnold; her beloved husband, Joe Halpin; and her sister, Nancy Johnson.
A visitation will be held on Sunday June 1, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm at Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, 1730 E Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI.
