

Phillip Lee Carter, fondly known as Phil, passed away on November 8, 2023, at The Willows of East Lansing at the age of 84. He was born on February 12, 1939, in Marion, Ohio, to Harry Edgebert Carter and Blanche Benson Carter.
Phil married Yvonne Irene Salamin on November 9, 1979, in Lansing, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the General Motors Institute and served with dedication in the US Air Force from 1961 to 1965.
Throughout his professional life, Phil was an active member of the East Lansing Rotary Club, contributing to the community he cherished. An avid runner, he received numerous medals for his accomplishments in cross-country races, including at least one marathon.
Phil's love for college football was evident in his unwavering support for his favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. His second passion lay in staying informed about current politics.
Remembered as a stoic individual with an excellent attitude towards life, Phil is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Salamin Carter, step-daughter Lisa Anne Hendrickson Haun (survived by Robert Carlisle Haun), granddaughter Chelsea Anne Haun Colthorp (Dustin Colthorp), granddaughter Brittany Mae Haun Stusick (Dr. Jeffrey Stusick), and grandson Benjamin Carlisle Haun. He is also survived by great-grandsons Hudson and Sawyer Colthorp, and sisters Mary Ann Carter Paszek and Nancy Carter Watson. Phil was predeceased by brothers David Benson Carter and Harry Thomas Carter, as well as his parents, Harry and Blanche Carter.
Private family services are entrusted to Gorsline Runciman East Lansing.

Phil lived life on his own terms, always with grace and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
