

Dr. Robert E. Brantley passed away on November 27, 2023, at the age of 88 in Fort Myers Florida. He was born May 6, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan to Otto and Muriel Brantley. He was a graduate of Detroit's Cooley High School in 1953 and received a B.A. degree from Wayne State University in 1959. After graduating from Wayne State University College of Medicine in 1963, he did his residency in Radiology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, and a year fellowship at the University of Michigan Department of Radiology, becoming board-certified in Radiology in 1969. His professional life was spent at Sparrow Hospital of Lansing, Michigan where he did diagnostic and angio/interventional radiology. He retired in 1994 after 25 years of practice. Robert was an avid runner who lettered in track and cross country in high school and college and ran in local races for many years of his adult life. He was an enthusiastic golfer, skier, chess player, and bridge player, loved to read, and enjoyed hobbies of wood carving and oil painting. After retirement, he split his time between Okemos, Michigan, and Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers. He moved down to Fort Myers permanently in 2016. He loved to travel and went all over the globe. Dr. Brantley was predeceased by his son Craig D. Brantley and his wife Margaret Brantley. Surviving is his Daughter Cristina Luke and grandsons Brody and Casey (Juliette) Luke. Also surviving are grandsons Douglas and Peter Brantley and their mother Lauri Brantley-Thom, stepdaughters Lori Close and Heather Flegel, and grandchildren Nickolas Close and Adeline Flegel. He will be GREATLY missed.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing.
