Rosemary Bettman

Rosemary was born in Ionia County on October 9, 1925 to Francis and Catherine Lawless. She was one of seven children and was raised in a large, rural Irish family in Portland, MI.

In 2016 Rosemary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, George L. Bettman. Together they raised their seven children; Mary Jane Bettman, Betty Hackney (Randy), Barbara Chase (David), Bob Bettman, Janet Shafer, Bill Bettman (Sue), Joanie Brogan (Eric). Rosemary was predeceased by brother, Pat Lawless (Therese) and sister Betty Thompson and is survived by 3 brothers Wayne Lawless, Fred Lawless (Pat), Mike Lawless (Lynn) and a sister, Kate Left. She leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in Child Psychology from The University of Michigan.

Rosemary’s life was full of a sense of humor and style, many friends and accomplishments and she gave service to many causes. She was an active member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She devoted years to the Altar Society, the St. Anthony Guild, St. Lawerence Hospital Auxiliary, Right to Life of Lansing Board Member, a Republican Party Delegate and elementary teacher during WWII. She was an avid reader & bridge player but Motherhood / Homemaker was her favorite profession. She was most inspired by Mother Teresa and Christ.

Surrounded by her loving family, God welcomed Rosemary into His arms on November 13, 2017. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with the Rosary at 7:30pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI. A funeral Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 18, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing, preceded by an hour of Visitation at 10 am.
