We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Sarabjit Singh Tokhie on June 8, 2023 in Lansing, MI at age 72. He was born on November 16, 1950 in Sangrur, India to Fateh Singh and Pritam Kaur Tokhie. He was a proud graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India where he completed his Medical Degree. On November 27, 1977, he was married to Anita Tokhie in India. In 1978, he was finally able to settle with her in Michigan, and then pursued his goal of completing residency and fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. His career led him to several different positions: Community Mental Health in the Detroit area; St. Lawrence-Sparrow Psychiatry; Community Mental Health Clinic in Battle Creek; and lastly, Okemos Psychiatric Associates before retirement in the midst of the COVID pandemic. It was always apparent how dedicated he was to his patients through his decades of practice, and how connected he was to all of his staff and colleagues.
Through his adulthood, he was an avid collector of stamps, loved to collect coins, and always enjoyed his card games. He was one to always crack jokes and could watch cricket for hours. He was quite social at gatherings and loved keeping up with his classmates from YPS and his AFMC-ites. Despite living in Michigan, he always looked forward to the spring and summer weather to begin gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Tokhie (Okemos, MI); son, Dr. Harnoor Tokhie and his wife, Avni Tokhie (Okemos, MI); daughter, Dr. Harlori Bains and her husband, Jaspreet Bains (Grand Rapids, MI); grandchildren, Aanika Tokhie and Sareena Tokhie (Okemos, MI); sister, Rani Kaur (Amritsar, India).
