Such an amazing human being, educator and inspiration to those who had the good fortune to be in her midst. Only briefly worked with Sarah at Ralya but quickly appreciated her gifts with special needs students and  leadership in acting  with respect for the dignity all. I only got to work with Sarah for 2 years but in that short time I recognized Sarah as a caring, passionate teacher who had high expectations of her students. Her students and the staff all trusted and respected her for the knowledge, passion and humor she brought to the table. My heart and prayers goes to Sarah’s family, friends and Ralya Elementary. She will be missed. 

Sarah was so genuine and real and fun.  It was such a privilege to get to work as closely with her for the short time that I did at Ralya. She modeled compassion and strength for both her kids that she taught as well as her "team"! It was easy to see what a great Mom she was too! Prayers for peace & encouragement to Adam, Sophie, Tony, & Vinny & her entire family. 

My heart aches as I think about and remember Sarah. Sarah and I began at Ralya at the same time. She was assigned as my “mentor” but she always made sure I knew we were a team and were there to help each other. From then on, we were teaching partners. I wish I could thank her again for introducing me to special Olympics and teaching and pushing me to be the best teacher I could be. Sarah has been with me through my own life ups and downs. I will miss her kind, calm demeanor with her  little dose of sarcasm and a smile . My heart is with Adam, Sophie, Tony, Vinny and all of those in Sarah’s family and friend circles.

I can’t even begin to explain how sorely missed Sarah will be in the lives of so many people. She was caring, hardworking, hysterical, and had an ever so infectious laugh. She had a way to make you feel like you’ve known her forever. Although I only worked with her for 3 years, I feel like I’ve known her for so much longer. She took me in on her Team with never ending support and kindness. I will never forget her unwavering love for her family and her students.  Prayers to the entire Mittino family. 💕

Sarah held a special place in my heart and she will be missed beyond words.  She had a passion for teaching and was one of the best that I have ever worked with. Her students held a special place in her heart and they knew that.  She touched hearts and opened doors for learning.

Sarah, you were the family I was lucky enough to choose. The best mom, teacher, and friend anyone could ask for. For the last 10+ years, we shared countless funny stories and gave each other a shoulder to lean on through the tough stuff. Cancer, of course, was the toughest. It does not seem fair, and I am going to miss you beyond words. But I am so grateful for the years we had together. For holiday party shenanigans (fun police!), soccer nights at Leo's, family vacations and bonfires up north (thoroughly put out, of course), girls' nights and weekends, sharing Moscow mules, scads of Christmas cookies, pool parties, NYE parties, and everything in between. My kids will miss their "Aunt Sarah" and Zach and I will miss our dear friend. We will always be there for Adam, Sof, Tony, and Vin. Sending you a coffee with honey in heaven. Love you always. 

Sarah has my respect as one fabulous wife and mother and friend. I loved her wry wit and ability to talk about anything and everything. We had many pleasant walks and talks through castles and museums in Ireland and on those Burren pathways. What a woman! We are so fortunate to have her in our lives. 

Sarah, your smile would light up a room and your humor would have us all laughing. I will keep telling you stories and wish I could hear one more from you. You impacted so many people and Adam, Sofi, Tony and Vinny will always represent a piece of you here with us. I will continue to think “what would Sarah do/ say” when I’m at a loss with my girls. There would never be enough time for everything I wanted to experience with you so I will be forever thankful for everything that we did get to do. I will love you forever ❤️

Sara was our neighbor but I was blessed to  get to know her more while working in her classroom with Lucy Sly. I was always amazed at how patient and caring she was towards her students whom she worked so diligently with.  My heart is very heavy and I will continue to hold the Mittino family up in prayer. Sara will be greatly missed❤

Losing Sarah leaves a vast hole in so many lives. She has had such a profound impact on so many  and lives on through her children, her students, and in all  our memories. Her contributions through Jr. LINKS, Special Olympics, and community grants enriched our community.  She saw potential in all her students and rooted for their success everyday
I credit Sarah with so many of the milestones my daughter has achieved, especially teaching Lucy to read. What an incredible gift. Sarah held Lucy to high expectations and was tenacious as she saw to it she  reached her goals. Lucy lists Mrs Mittino as her friend and whenever we ask who loves her,  Sarah always made the list. 
While this loss is unimaginable, we will hold on to how thankful we are to have known her.

Sarah has been one of my dearest friends for over a decade.  She was a trusted confidant, aunt to my daughter and a member of my chosen family in Lansing.  There is so much pain in loosing her but also joy that we have so many memories filled with laughter, love and friendship.  Memories that will be shared through the years with Sofia, Tony and Vinny  so that Sarah will live on forever with us all.  Ben, Eleanor and I promise to keep Sarah with us in our hearts and to be there to support Adam and her beautiful children.  We love you, Sarah, and are so thankful we had so many years to have you in our lives. 

Sarah was an amazing mother, wife, friend and teacher.  She was compassionate, loving, humorous, and strong.  Anyone that knew Sarah loved her and will miss her dearly.  She created such a wonderful place for my nephew and I’ve loved watching him grow under her guidance.  Ralya will forever miss her smile!  My love and prayers to Adam, Sophia, Tony, Vinny, and the rest of the family.  

Sarah will always remain one of the best teachers I ever had contact with as a social worker and viewed her as one of the best people I ever met...God seems to take the very best first...My sincere condolence to those grieving her passing... an incredible person!

The only one authorized to call me “old man”; constantly and irreverently. I loved it and I loved her. She was a marvelous young woman and mother to my grandchildren and wife to my son, Adam. 

Sarah was the reason we chose Haslett School District years ago when our daughter Melina was about to enter kindergarten.  As a parent of a child with special needs, sending your child to public school for the first time is so scary!  We had visited many different districts searching for the right fit.  When we met Sarah, we knew we had found the right place.  Sarah was a kind-hearted, intelligent, strong and beautiful person inside and out.  She put us at ease and we felt safe leaving our daughter in her capable hands. She always pushed Melina to do her best and even sang to her despite that she didn’t feel she had the best voice!  Melina never complained and we loved her dearly for stepping outside of her comfort zone to help meet Melina’s needs.  God bless Sarah and her family.  This worlds loss is certainly heavens gain.

Our paths crossed when our daughters forged a  special friendship while in middle school.  We walked a lot of XC courses  together, sat thru many half time (football game)  performances, and band concerts in awe of our girls.  We were part of each other’s tribe, supporting one another thru this amazing  journey called “parenting”.  You are missed already!  To your family, I wish peace and send light.  May the memories sustain you and in time bring you joy.  ❤️❤️❤️


Sarah was an amazing friend and coworker in Indianapolis.  We shared so many fun times together at the start of our careers at School 49.  She was an amazing teacher who cared deeply for her students.

I was blessed the day I met Sarah, Adam and the kids. I was welcomed like I was part of the family. I then got married to Aimee ( Adam’s sister) and Sarah told me “welcome to the club”. Me being stupid, I didn’t get The Club thing. So I asked her. She said you “Marcus are an in-law now so we are a team.” We drank and laughed and by the time we flew back to Germany I left knowing I had a family and a team. Thank you Sarah and thank you Adam. I’ll miss you for always my sister.

I remember Sarah very fondly as a special education teacher for my daughter. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and a passion for helping children optimize their potential. My sincere condolences to Sarah’s family. May it be a comfort to know that she helped so many children during her years as a teacher.

The world has lost a beautiful soul.  I  remember having the honor of photographing Sarah and her beautiful family just after she finished chemo and Adam had shaved his head to show his loving support for his wife.  She was strong, sweet and a wonderful mother to Sophia, Tony and Vinny.  My heart aches for the whole family.  A loss like this is always so difficult to understand.  Prayers to you all. 

The thing I will remember is how Sara made me feel!! She appreciated her staff around her and had such a kind gracious spirit ....I was so encouraged and wanted to emulate her. Her job wasn’t easy but she loved her job and she did it well!! And she appreciated the help I gave her!! 
I will  miss you and will remember all the lessons you gave so generously.... 

I worked with Sarah only a few times yet even with just those interactions I could see her love and caring nature toward her students! You could just tell they loved her too! Her smiling face will surely be missed around Ralya.

Sarah had such a beautiful spirit. She was so sweet and spunky. She will forever be in our hearts.  Peace to you Adam, Sofie, Tony and Vinny.

I’ve so many memories of Sarah, I don’t know where to begin. From  tubing up north, to back yard barbecues, to gas-leaks-turned-porch-parties, Sarah and Adam were a core part of my urban family since 2004. I will always remember Sarah’s  dry wit, her laughter, and her tolerance of my choice in pink t-shirts. :-) 

She will forever be loved, and she will forever be missed.
