Dorothy was born to Elmer and Bessie (Baize) Lott on October 9th 1922 in Cleaton Kentucky.
Dorothy told the story when she was about 18 her sister and herself were sitting on a wood fence watching a dirt road to see who came by. There was not a lot to do in rural Kentucky in those days. Walking down the road were two young men. Dorothy turned to her sister and said “ I hope the good looking one in the hat stops to talk to me.
He not only stopped to talk to her but continued for 66 years of marriage until Jack passed away in 2007. Like many men of his generation Jack left Kentucky and came north to find work at Caterpillar and secure a home for his family. He then returned to Central City Kentucky to bring Dorothy and the family to Pekin Illinois. Dorothy said she cried from Central City to Pekin for she was leaving everything and everyone she knew.
After several moves they bought a house in Creve Coeur where they lived for 54 years. Dorothy was active in her children’s school as well as a member of Creve Coeur Christian Church from 1958 until her health began to take a toll in her early 90’s.
Dorothy liked crafts and especially crocheting. She loved camping and went through a tent, pop-up tent, two motor homes and two camper trailers before her health forced her to give up her spot at Kentuckyana Camp Ground.
