He was born on January 13, 1935 in Ridgway, Illinois to Paul and Pearl (Lynch) Griffin. He married Faustine Smith on June 30, 1956 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2004.
Also preceding Gilbert in death are his parents; twin brother, Gerald Griffin; and daughter, Kimberly Fletcher.
He is survived by his children, Tracie (Phil) Gibson, Geoffrey (Diane) Griffin, and Jodi (John) Zimmerman; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gilbert worked for Caterpillar 34 ½ years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Hilton Masonic Lodge #1143.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, playing pool, and going to Eastside every day.
Gilbert’s funeral service will be held at Remmert Funeral Home on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11am, with a visitation to start an hour prior at 10am. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
