Gregory Thomas Underhill

Born on May 27, 1961 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Thomas and Janis (Flamm) Underhill; he married Penny Brewer in Peoria, IL on June 1, 1985. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Janis Flamm; son, Paul (Rachel) Underhill; daughter, Julie (Steven) Underhill; sisters, Debi (Sam) Bady of Tenn. and Jana Underhill.

Preceding Greg in death were his father, Tom and daughter, Justine Nicole.

He was a proud member of the East Peoria Fire Department, serving as a fire fighter/paramedic, and was awarded the Fire Fighter of the Year twice. Before his retirement he devoted his life to being a mentor to not only members of the Department, but to all who came in contact with him.

Greg’s family was his first priority and he was always there when they needed him. He was a great support for his wife, enabling her to become the entrepreneur and mother that she is today. Besides his devotion to his family, he loved being active in his community.

If there was ever anything that needed fixed, or just tinkered with, Greg was there. He always followed his moto, “If it is going to be done, then do it right” and paid attention to the small details in everything he did.

Greg was an avid Vikings fan, loved any motor sport, and in his younger years, he enjoyed camping and dirt bike riding. Everyone who knew Greg knew his sense of humor, but those closest to him could pick up on his “cues”.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday April 19. 2017 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April, 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home. The service will be officiated by Kim Riggenbach. Burial will follow at Fondulac Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, MDA, or ALS Association.
