

He was born on December 3rd, 1949 in Brevard, North Carolina to Larry and Maggie (Ballard) Harris. He married Carol Jane Harris on February 26th, 1985 in Lompoc, California. She preceded him in death on January 7th, 2025.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gilbert and Charles Harris.
He is survived by his children Dameien (Jennifer) Harris, Elliott Hickson, Tim (Kristine Kelley) Harris, Maggie (Sean) Baker, Nikki and her spouse and children; grandchildren Dillon, Chase, Arianna, Jade, Grace, AJ, Laura, Carter, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers.
Harold graduated from Roth High School in Dayton, Ohio. Afterwards, he went on to attend Knox College, where he played football and received his Associate's Degree. At Knox College, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was an All-Marine football player and wrestler. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 25 years, receiving numerous accolades and promotions throughout his career. After retirement, he was a social worker for the Children's Home, where he worked until 2025.
Harold's top priority was his family; he loved them dearly, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid football fan and excellent cook. He enjoyed painting, music, reading, crossword puzzles, and his movies, particularly Harry Potter.
In the years prior to his death, Harold had expressed a desire to be confirmed into the Catholic Church, and just five days before he passed, he became Catholic. We know that he will always be looking down on us from Heaven.
A visitation for Harold will be held at Remmert Funeral Home on Friday, April 17th, 2026 from 5-7 PM. His funeral mass will be held at St. Mark's Parish on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at 10 AM, with an additional visitation to start an hour prior at 9 AM. Burial will take place at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. A reception will follow.
