She was born May 10, 1925 in Augusta, MO to Eugene and Frances (Buenemann) Dieckmann. She married Clyde Ervin on August 31, 1945 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2012. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Norman Dieckmann, who was killed in Action during WWII at the age of 22, and one sister, Josephine White, who passed away at the age of 99.
Surviving are her three daughters, Shirley (Elvis) Gambill, Donna (Tom) Hurt, and Barbara (John) Salzer all of East Peoria; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darlene Ballmann of Washington, MO.
Hazel and Clyde had many great years together. Family vacations and holiday dinners were at the top of the FUN list. They enjoyed playing cards, going bowling, and out to eat with friends. Many fun summers were also spent at a cabin in Osage Beach at Lake of the Ozarks with Hazel's sisters. Josephine (Dale) White and Darlene (Dick) Ballmann. Hazel was a wonderful homemaker, taking great care of her family and her home. She was also proud of her family and being the matriarch of four sets of five generations.
A visitation will be on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 10 to 11 am with a private family service to follow at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. The Rev. Gary England will officiate.
