Katherine M. McClain

She was born Oct. 26, 1915 in Mason County, IL. to Cyrus and Ruth (Bell) Armstrong. She married Harold McClain on July 1, 1939 in Peoria. He passed away Jan. 3, 1995 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Ryal Armstrong, four sisters: Faye Backs, Ann Linden, Lois Schoppe, one baby sister, and one son-in-law, Bob Smith.

Survivors include two sons: Ronald (Ann) McClain of Peoria, Richard (Judy) McClain of San Jose, one daughter, Susan (Mike) Henry of Peoria, four grandchildren: Elizabeth, Michael (Kathy), Katie, Maggie, two brothers: Bill (Barb) Armstrong of Mesa, AZ, Don (Alfreda) Armstrong of Apple Valley, CA, two sisters: Barb (Bill) Sprick of Peoria, Jean Williams of Tremont, numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Katherine graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1935. She taught elementary school for 25 years retiring in 1975 from Creve Coeur District 76.

She was a 70- year member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria, where she was a member of the JOY Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Filiae Regis Circle of Kings Daughters, Illinois TTT Chapter D, the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services will be Wednesday July 21, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to her church or to OSF Hospice.
