Katheryne L. "Katsy" Baynes Hight

She was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Parma, MO to Richard F. and Lillian G. (Hoffmeister) Baynes. She married Howard H. Hight in New Madrid, MO on June 6, 1949. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2004. She was also preceded by one sister, Frances Puckett.

Surviving are six children, Richard (Lynda) Hight of Hixson, TN, Kay (Les) Newton of East Peoria, Peggy Hight of East Peoria, David (Patricia) Hight of LaGrange, Philip (Patti) Hight of St. Charles, MO, Patricia Hight of East Peoria; 19 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one sister, Dixie Leonberger of New Madrid, MO; 2 nieces, Linda Fowler, Dixie Kay Allan; and one nephew, Art Puckett.

Katheryne graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Cairo, IL in 1945. Following her graduation she worked for Dr. Bomdurant in Cairo from 1945 to 1948. She also worked in the cafeteria for District 86 in East Peoria and as a retail clerk for Carson Pirie Scott and Co. in Peoria. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Madrid, MO and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria in recent years. She loved to do needlework, read, jigsaw puzzles and care for and spend time with her family.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.

Memorials may be made to the Madison Hight Cancer fund at Gateway Bank and Trust, PO Box 129 in Ringgold, GA 30736 Attention Rick Hight. Katheryne’s great granddaughter Madison has battled neuroblastoma since age 3. This fund was established at that time to help with her care. Madison’s care was very near and dear to Katheryne.
