

He was born Aug. 20, 1929 in Peoria to Bruce and Cora (Servier) George. He married Delores “Dee” Thomas July 5, 1953 in Peoria. She survives along with two twin daughters: Marlies Schmidt of East Peoria, Sieglinde Feidengruber of Germany, one granddaughter, Michele Schmidt of East Peoria, one great-grandson, Ryan Schmidt of East Peoria, one great-granddaughter, Molly Kuehn of Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews. .
He was preceded in death by three daughters: Lynne, Sandra, and Karen George, two sisters: Francis Billington, Gladys Ary, and one brother, Raymond George.
Leonard worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years retiring June 1, 1982.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1948 until his discharge in 1951, serving in the Korean War from Aug. 1950 to Oct. 1951. He was a lifetime member of the East Peoria VFW post 2078. During his time at Post 2078 he serviced as Post Chaplin, Post Commander, and was in charge of the post Military Honor Guard. He was also a Lifetime member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Bartonville American Legion Post 979, Lifetime member of the Peoria AMVETS Post 64, Korean War Veterans Association, Masonic Hilton Lodge in East Peoria, and a member of the Abbas Grotto in East Peoria.
Funeral services along with Masonic Rites will be Tuesday Sep. 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria with Military Rites by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
Memorials may be made to the East Peoria VFW Post 2078 or the Illinois Cancer Center on Rt. 91 in Peoria.
