

Mildred Catherine Cook Miller, age 90, died after a brief illness, June 27, 2011. She was born Sept. 3, 1920 in East Point, GA. She graduated from Russell High School in 1937. Ms. Miller worked for 51 years for East Point Chevrolet which later became Goldsmith Chevrolet. She was the Secretary-Treasurer and Office Manager for the dealership and received many awards from General Motors for her outstanding work. She served as Secretary-Treasurer and Vice-President of the East Point Pilot Club. Each year she coordinated the Pilot Club barbecue which became a highlight for many East Point residents. Mildred was a member of East Point First Baptist Church for seventy years and taught Sunday School for many years. She is predeceased by her son, David Clinton Miller, parents, Clinton Moise Cook and Mattie Lou Thames Cook, and brother, Harold E. Cook. She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Miller and wife, Karla of Senden, Germany. A daughter, Rebecca “Tootsie” Byrnes and fiance’, Wallace H. Muse of Norcross, GA. A daughter-in-law, Sally Ann Walters Miller of Spartanburg, SC. Four grandchildren, Robin Porter Stein and husband, Captain Larry Stein, USN of Brampton, England, David Samuel Miller and wife, Ashley Brockman Miller, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Mary Catherine “Kitty” Miller Basch and husband, Steven Basch of Dallas, GA, and Martin K. Miller of Senden, Germany. Seven great-grandchildren, Ariel Stein, Clint and Lily Miller, Caroline, Ben and Catherine Basch, and Alessandra Miller. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home 2968 East Point St., East Point, GA 30344 from 6-8 pm Friday, July 1, 2011.
