Arthur Jesse Thompson

Mr. Thompson was born in Sweetwater, TN to Floyd and Esta Thompson. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class and past president of the Ringgold Rotary Club. He received his BS from Virginia Tech in Industrial Engineering, worked for 16 years at Sweetwater Rug Company and retired from Richmond Carpet Company. He was also a pilot during WWII and later served as a Captain in the Air Force Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Guthrey Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Walter Thompson, Hubert Thompson, Ithan Thompson Ellis and Robert Thompson.

He is survived by wife of 61 years, Sara “Sil” Thompson; son, Mike (Miriam) Thompson of Ringgold; daughters, Nancy Thompson of Athens, GA and Amy Thompson of Knoxville; Grandchildren Hunt (Regina) Thompson, Katie Thompson and Lacy (Andrew) Musser; and brother, Henry (Albena) Thompson of Burnsville, MN.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 10:30 to 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services will follow at 12:30 PM with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class at Ridgedale Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
