Betty was born July 31, 1929 in Knoxville, TN., to the late Shade and Ruia Walker. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School Class of 1947. She went on to be an Interior Designer at Fowler Brothers and eventually opened her own business in Chattanooga called Total Concepts.
Betty was an active member of her church, Tyner United Methodist Church and participated in the following activities: Sarah Circle, TOTS, Flying Solos Group, Prayer Shawl Ministry, and also volunteered at the church office as a receptionist. As a docent and charter member of the Tennessee Aquarium she served for 18 years following her retirement. She was also a docent at the Hunter Art Museum. In her pastime she spent countless hours golfing, sewing, crocheting, and cooking. But her important accomplishment was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, S. Edmund Hale, and her aforementioned parents.
Left behind to cherish Betty’s memory are her children, Scott (Myra) Davis; Greg (Richard Morris) Davis; Margie (Mark) Burgin; grandchildren, Christopher Davis; Adam (Meredyth) Davis; Matt (Jena) Burgin, Mary Beth (Vince) Slasor; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Walker Davis; Tansy and Shade Burgin; and Julia Slasor; and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at Tyner United Methodist Church on Monday January 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Amanda Dean officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest with her husband, S. Edmund in the Chattanooga National Cemetery following the service.
