Born in Chattanooga on June 12, 1942 to the late Joseph and Helen Wallace. She graduated from Central High School. She met the love of her life Cleo while working at the Hamilton National Bank and were married on April 21, 1961. She worked for and retired from East Ridge Food Lion after 39 years of service as a Customer Service Manager. Clara’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, attending Liam’s baseball games, and playing cards with her friends and family.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Cleo C. Porter, her aforementioned parents, step-father, Harold Emerson, and brothers, William “Bill” Wallace and Jerry Wallace.
Left behind to cherish Clara’s memory are her children, Richard A. Porter, Bruce W. (Sheila) Porter, and Denise (Steve) Collins, grandchildren, Mackenzie (Boris) Frantz, Brandon Baxter, Logan Porter, and Ashley Moore, 2 great-grandchildren, Liam Moore and August Frantz, sister, Patricia LaCombe, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special; loving friends.
A Celebration of Clara’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jon Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening February 22, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Clara’s memory be made to First Calvary Baptist Church, 300 West Bell Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37405.
