Debby and Janice were both fans of James Roger's as were my husband Sam and myself. James and I went to high school together. We enjoyed being together and became friends. Sam and I were at their nurse pinning and were also at Debby & Billy 's wedding.  We also went to church together. Over the years our close friendship faded but we stayed in contact through Facebook. Debby  was a great mom to her 3 boys that she cherished.  She will be missed by everyone that crossed her path.

It has been MANY years since I last saw Debby. We were friends in high school; she and I were in youth group together at church. When I think of Debby, I always smile. She could always make me laugh. No matter what life threw at her, she always chose to see the cup as "half full". I cannot wait to see her again in heaven and catch up on all of the years since we last saw one another. I am sure there will be a LOT of laughter. I love you Debby Bales Watts. You will be missed!

Debby was like a second momma to me. She helped me a lot in my younger years get back on the right path.I have never forgotten that.I will miss her laugh and great sense of humor and her beautiful voice. Heaven got another angel.

I’ll never forget our youth trip to Gatlinburg way back in the day. Me and Debby roomed together. We had a blast just laughing and cutting up all weekend. Those were the days! I also remember having my second child and Debby was at the hospital in premature labor at the same time as I was there having my child. This was in 1989.  We were just about 3 rooms apart. Small world! Debby will always be remembered for her laughter. She always had a smile for everyone she came in contact with. RIP my friend till we meet again.  XOXO

I remember her singing, her laughter, her love for her family and friends. I remember her sweet caring heart and her awesome sense of humor.  She was always willing to listen and help anyone, what a wonderful person she will always be.

There are so many great memories of mama Deb that I don’t know where to start. We have had fun together. We shared lots of laughs. We sang together. We worked together. She could make anyone laugh or smile. She had such an out going personality. Mama was just an amazing person. I will miss your smile and your contagious laugh. I love you mama Deb. I wish I could have hugged you one more time. Rest In Peace my dear friend. 

Debby and I were in nursing school together. I was a young 18 year old and she took me under her wing. We rode together to school. She always had a smile and was quick witted with a joke or comment. I drove an old cutlass, the passenger door lock would sometimes stick. After working on it for a few minutes, Debby looked over her shoulders and said, “just roll the window down, I will Dukes of Hazard it.” She taught me so much during school. She will be greatly missed!

In 1976, I was 9 years old and Debby was 17.  My parents worked long hours, a long distance away, and they were hoping to find someone young and single who could live with us, to help take care of me and my younger brother Jason.  Someone suggested they look at Bethel Bible Village. Bethel is a faith-based home (community) for children who were not legally orphans, but had no parent able to care for them... Debby was about to turn 18, and at 18 she could no longer live at Bethel - she was aging out of the "system" and needed a home - more so, a home with lots of love to give.  Little did we know that we needed her just as much as she needed us.  So in 1976-77 Debby came to live with our family,.. and she lived with us until my brother and I had "aged out" of needing a babysitter - because she had become family.  She became family so much so that years later, my father walked her down the aisle and gave her away on her wedding day.  She taught me that even if your world seems to be crumbling around you - you have to put on a brave face and trudge your way through it.  She was the older sister who taught me how to swim, drive, sing and snap-back at the bullies who relentlessly picked on me.  Her strength, resilience and power of forgiveness were remarkable.  It was the struggles she never talked about that made her who she was... so it was not a surprise when she chose pediatric nursing as a career.  She was dedicated to helping children - and she was one of the best.  Always helping others, always giving, always laughing - That's who Debby was.

I will miss her more than words can say - but I will carry the love and laughter she brought into my life forever.



I remember the first time I met debby .I had lost my niece and she reminded me her more than anything in this world . Then we went on vacation to gulf shores alabama and we had the best times of my life went on a sailboat to see the doplins and she almost fell over broad and Tyler saying (,there goes my mother) .Debby was a angel in disguise. One of a kind friend /family always making me smile when I just wanted to scream . She touched my life and my heart in more ways than I could ever put into words . I'm surely going to miss her and listening to her sing . Such a gorgeous voice heart and soul . I wished I could have been there to hug you and say hey you know I love you . But you already knew that . There will never be another You . You gave me a hard time over the football game . All can say is I miss you like crazy already . Fly high my sweet loving friend . I will never forget you . Even though you're gone your memory still stays in my  heart . Debby God how my hurts because I feel like I lost my rock in this world . But I know you're in a better place now and your seeing your family now . I know you've met mine there too . I will always hold you in my heart . I love you . Rest in peace . This isn't GOODBYE ITS SEE YOU LATER


Such a wonderful voice just loved to here her sing.She always had a smile on her face whenever I got a chance to see her. She now sings with the Angel’s in heaven.

In 1977 I ran an add in the paper for a roommate.  Debby answered that add and we shared an apartment on Larchmont Drive for several months. Then I took a traveling job and she moved into my parents home and soon became a part of the Griffith family.  She and my baby sister, Janice became quick friends to the point when a few years later when my sister was dying it was her wish that Debby and Billy raise her son James. And the rest is history to most of you all. But what you don't know is Debby also was the one who led me to a saving understanding of the gospel.  I will forever be thankful for having known and loved her.

I first met Debbie when my nieces daughter Tarren Conner was in TC Thompson in and out for many years.  She was such a sweet lady & nurse. She was so  good with those sick children.  Tarren lived to be 14 and Debbie came to her funeral.  I’m glad she was there for Tarren and so many more. They are in heaven now rejoicing and playing. ❤️

Debby, touched my life in so many ways. She gave me strength to make it through some hard situations in my life. She made me laugh when I felt like crying and she gave me the courage to go back to school. She was by best friend in the whole wide world.  She touched everyone's life she came in contact with and I am going to miss her with all of my heart. Sing with the angels until we meet again my sweet friend, RIP

I've known Debbie since we were teens. I looked up to her because she seemed to care for everyone. She always had that beautiful smile & her laugh was a joy.  I know she is sitting at the feet of Jesus now &  singing with the angels.  RIP Debbie! Until we meet again!

I met and worked with Debby at T.C. Thompsons. She was always great to work with and a very fine nurse. She's been missed since she left. I am saddened to hear of her passing, but Heaven is a little sweeter... I know she's singing with all the heavenly hosts! Til we meet again Deb.....❤

It seems like yesterday, that we were singing karaoke, the times that we shared were priceless. Debbie always had a way to make you laugh. Yes, we will all miss her so much, and it is hard to believe that she is gone, but memories of the time spent with Debbie will never fade. Till we meet again, Go rest high on that mountain Debbie love ya. 

I will always remember her fun and loving way . One time we sang all about that bass . We had a ball. She sang like an angel always. She will be greatly missed.

I remember  Debby  at the  Salvation Army  in east Chattanooga. 

I will forever remember hearing you sing and seeing your smile every time you would come sing karaoke.  You will be missed.  So many loved you.  May you dance and sing with Jesus.  Love you always.  Joy

In 1980-1985 I lived in Chattanooga, Debby was a church member where my dad preached(Ridgeview Baptist Church). Debby and I became close friends and sang in a small group.
She will truly be missed.
