Fonza Miller Barkley

Fonza Alice Miller Barkley, 93, of Chattanooga died January 5, 2014 at her home. She was born March 10, 1920 in Bledsoe County, Tennessee a daughter of the late Goliah and Clarice Swafford. She was preceded in death by her husbands Willard Miller and U.Q. Barkley. She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church. Mrs. Barkley started one of Chattanooga’s first kindergartens at Brainerd Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 365 and was active in her church and in many charities.

Survivors include children Jim, (Zena) Miller, Glenn Miller and Star (Mott) Fraterman; step children Wanda (Ed) Grant and Pam (Marion) Quarles; grandchildren Amanda Paul, Adam Miller, Jesse Miller, Moussa Miller and Sher Miller; step grandchildren Marley Fraterman, Marius Fraterman, Todd Grant, Keri Grant and Michael Quarles; step great grandchildren Leighton Fraterman and Nick Fraterman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11:00 am from the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Rowland officiating. Private entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 10-11 Wednesday at the funeral Home.
