Mr. Pettyjohn was born and raised in Hamilton County, TN. He was a member of the former Clifton Hill Baptist Church and attended South Seminole Baptist Church. He was a WWII Navy veteran and retired from Carpenter Local 74.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gladiola Pettyjohn; 5 sisters; and 4 brothers.
Surviving are his daughter, Derita (Michael) Murphy of Soddy Daisy; son, H. P. “Paul” (Mary June) Pettyjohn of Chattanooga; and granddaughter, Kimberly L. Pettyjohn.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the funeral home.
Graveside Services will be at 10 AM on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Ron Perry officiating and with military honors.
Memorial donations may be made to South Seminole Baptist Church, 1201 S. Seminole Drive, East Ridge, TN 37412.
