He was a graduate of Central High School. James served his country in the United States Army as an MP overseas in Germany. He retired from Dupont Chemical after 37 years. His most important task was his church as he was a long time faithful member and elder for Ridgedale Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnna Thompson and his parents.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, James Douglas Thompson, Jr., and his wife, Melissa, Joy and her husband, Sam Bell, 6 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of James’ life will be held graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Ed Gallagher and Ken Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 11a.m. to 1p.m. on Tuesday. He will be laid to rest with his wife in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contribution in James’ memory be made to the Martin Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421
