Melissa:  So sorry to hear the news concerning Janice.  Everyone always spoke so kindly concerning her over the years.  From the pics, it appears you all made a lot of good memories thru the years.  I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers.  Jack Ellis, HCSO.

An absolute tremendous lady. I had heard many stories about “Jane Wayne,” but never met her until Lee Wolff utilized her pull the ultimate prank and embarrass me in a packed waiting room at the Grand Jury. I really got to know Janice when she first came to work at the Sheriff’s Office after her retirement from the Chattanooga Police Department, where she assisted me with maintaining the Sex Offender Registry. A very stern lady who would let her feelings be known, in a respectful manner. I only wish I had known her earlier in my career, for she was a plethora of knowledge and common sense with a passion for justice. She was a true professional in her field. Janice has left this Earth that is full of sorrow and pain to enter a place that knows no agony nor misery. She is with her LORD and savior, who died for all our sins. 

Philippians 1:21-23;
 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 
If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 
I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.


Janice and I had an ongoing thing and we use the Summer/Winter Olympics to boast our competitive wins. She would call and tell me how well she did in the luge and downhill skiing or in the shotput and I would call with equal stardom. While both of us were working child abuse investigations , we had a CPIT meeting to attend and I took it on myself to blaster her out of the ballpark. I came early to set up the joke and wore several large medals from  high school around my neck like Mark Spitz in 1972 Olympics.  I sat calmly at the end of the long table and waited. When Janice entered the room she looked and bellowed out a laugh that cracked the walls.  If you've ever seen Janice laugh where she has to bend over to get her composure you'll know what I mean. No one in the room knew that I had the metals around my neck and paid no attention until Janice uttered a few harsh words, came over hugged me and we both laughed together throughout the meeting.  We would continued this foolish game until this last Olympics but this time I let her win. 

She was a very beautiful person, as a teenager, she wouldn't let me have any boyfriends, told me there is more to life, than having a boyfriend, such as Education, and work, she was a mentor. That was when she first became a street officer, Janice may you rest in peace, and in heaven, say hello to your mentor my mom, Mrs. Billie Jane. Tell her I love her very much.

I met Janice over 25 years ago and I will never forget how I met her.  She was an outstanding Officer and a great lady to know. I would always joke and cut up with her every time I seen her. She is going to be missed so much by many. R.I.P Janice . I'm going to miss you.

What can be said about a lady like Janice that hasn't already been said? She was a trailblazer, a true patriot and my friend. It was always a honor to be in the presence of someone who had served so many, so  honorably.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew her..  Rest easy Janice. Job well done. We will meet you again on that beautiful shore....  

On behalf of the men and women of FOP Rock City Lodge #22, we extend our sincere condolences to each of you who knew and loved Janice. Her life has been defined by her honor, courage, service and love.  May we ALL aspire to leave the kind of legacy Janice has.

You were bigger than life with your beautiful smile and personality.  I will always remember the times we spent together.  You were loved so much, by so many people. You have been a blessing to me, and I'm so glad GOD crossed our paths.  It's not goodbye, its  I'll see you again someday. Rest in peace my friend.

It's impossible to have one favorite memory because Janice was widely favored to all.  She was your best backup and you had every confidence in her when she arrived. She was a high skilled investigator,
Even  the confessed criminals thanked her,  During the most heart riping or outrageously funny cases , she maintained the same  controlled composure.  She extended herself beyond duty and limits because doing it right and honesty reaped the greater reward. She was funny, serious, honest and driven, but for the most she was the dearest friend you could ask for.  She 'd scold you, console  you, and pick you back up.  But above all  I loved our hours of bantering  foolishness,  scary moments in our work and close calls that made us laugh so hard we cried. I love her and will miss ever bit of genuine joy we've shared in our 42 years of friendship. Fill the Heavens with songs and bring back music to us again. 

We are so very sorry for her family~ Melissa loved and cared for her mother so very much. We know her grandchildren and friends have lost a part of their heart as well. God be with them, comfort them, now is the moment we celebrate her life but grieve our loss Psalms 34:18 💐

Without a doubt, one of the Chattanooga Police Department's "Finest."  I had the honor to work with Janice on that department and she represented all that is good about a police officer.  That generation of "Cops" called the "New Centurions" are slowly but surely starting to patrol the streets of Heaven in increasing numbers.  Janice "Jane Wayne" Adkinson has taken her place alongside so many of the officers she once worked with here on earth who are now working on Heavenly Blvd.  What a true choir practice they are having.  RIP, Friend.
