Janis Starr De Lacy, 76, of Chattanooga passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at her home. Jan was a Christian and led many Precept Bible studies over a 20 year period. She wanted everyone to know that she lived her life the best she could with her faith in Jesus. She was a graduate of Stetson University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She had taught school at St. Anne’s School in Columbus, GA and St. Joseph’s School in Newburgh, NY. Following her teaching career she owned Recollections Gift Shop in Chattanooga. She had a passion for holiday decorating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Phyllis Bump Starr.
Survivors include her husband, Pete De Lacy; daughter, Colette (Brian) Thompson; granddaughter, Isabelle Schremp; sister, Claire Joyce; several nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN.
A private graveside service will be held later at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
