Mr. Skinner was a native of Tifton, GA and raised in Trion, GA. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific area, of the Baptist faith being a life-long member of Dry Valley Baptist Church of which he helped to build and a graduate of Freight Traffic Institute of Technology in Chicago. He was a member of the William E. Blair American Legion Post 95 where he served as past vice commander of the Honor Guard, Fraternal Order of Eagles Scenic City Aerie 945, and a founding member of the VFW in Trion, GA. He was also a retired car salesman having worked at Newton Chevrolet and Ed Wright Chevrolet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lillian Skinner and grandson, Bradley Daniel Skinner.
Surviving are his sons, John (Dianne) Skinner, Jr., Jerry (Anna) Skinner and Danny (Lisa) Skinner; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
Memorial donations may be made to F.O.E. or the American Legion.
