Johnnie Sue Slatton, 69, died March 27, 2026. A beloved and cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be remembered for her compassionate heart, devoted spirit, generous ways, hard-working ethic, and resilient faith. She lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Johnnie Sue grew up in East Ridge and graduated from East Ridge High School in 1974. After working as a teller in a bank, she graduated from nursing school in 1983.
Johnnie Sue spent most of her working life working for Slatton Awning. After her uncle passed away, she inherited the business—an extension of the steady, determined care she brought to everything she did.
Family was at the center of Johnnie Sue’s life. She was the mother of Joshua Slatton and loved Lindsey as family as well. She delighted in her grandchildren, Sophie and Blake Slatton, and treasured time spent with them. She is also survived by her brothers, Herbert Milton "Skipper" and Scott Slatton, and her sister, Patsy Gann.
Johnnie Sue found joy in the simple, life-giving things: gardening, swimming, playing with her dog Gracie, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her home was a place of welcome—open for family gatherings and holiday events—and her table held more than food; it held belonging.
A woman of faith and service, Johnnie Sue was involved with the Walk to Emmaus community, was a former member of Jones Memorial, and more recently attended East Ridge Presbyterian. She donated regularly to the Chattanooga Food Bank and Salvation Army, giving quietly and consistently in ways that reflected her love for Jesus and her commitment to serving through the church.
A Celebration of Johnnie Sue’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday April 2, 2026, at 1pm with the family receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 11am. She will be laid to rest in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
“Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
