Mr. Ellis was born in Colmont, Tennessee to the late Floyd and Pearl Ellis. He was a graduate of Kirkman Technical School and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Juanita Ellis; daughter, Crystal Bailey; grandsons, Zachary (Alycia) Bailey and Nick Bailey.
