Leslie Lee Givens

Leslie Lee Givens, 95, of East Ridge passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at his home. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was born in Norton, Virginia to Leslie Lee and Alva Irene Givens. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute until he was called to war. He was a veteran of WWII where he served as a Captain in the US Army. After the war he continued his education at Tulane University where he graduated with a major in chemical engineering. He married Ruth Malarcher while at Tulane. Later they moved to Chattanooga where he owned Hamilton Business Machines. After 16 years he sold the company to A&A Business Machines. He worked there until they merged with the copier division with R J Young. He continued to work for R J Young until he was 89 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Malarcher Givens, an infant son, Joseph Givens, a sister, Virginia Stallworth and a son-in-law, Robert Beasley.

He is survived by four sons, Robert (Connie) Givens, Bill (Vicky) Givens, Greg (Diane) Givens and Dr. Steve (LuAnne) Givens; two daughters, Nancy (Tony) St. Charles and Lisa Beasley; 13 grandchildren, Courtney, Stephanie, Matthew, Kevin, Brian, Justin, Jonathan, Jackie Lee, Jesse, Richard, David, Virginia and Katherine; 12 Great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lucile Malarcher; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, John Hasek.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care given to Lee by LaJan Hogan and Apryl Bridgeman.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Mike Creson and Father Jim Vick officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM Monday with a rosary service at 7:30 PM at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
