Mary Ellen Harper Baker

Mary Ellen was born December 18, 1932 in Fannin County ,GA to the late William Clive and Mary Elizabeth Harper. She was the fourth of seven siblings, whom she loved very much,

Mary Ellen was a very hard worker at a very young age. Her first job as surgical technician was at Burdine Clinic in Copperhill, TN. Later she worked at the Copper Basin Hospital, where she assisted on most surgical cases.

After her children were grown, she moved to Chattanooga TN where she worked as a Surgical Technician. She assisted on the first total ankle repair. She retired after forty years at Parkridge Medical Center as a Certified Orthopedic Surgical Technician.

Mary Ellen made friends wherever life took her. She was a loyal, considerate, and passionate person regarding her work and her family.

Her family included : Diana Lynn ( Richard) Phillips , Chattanooga, TN ; Sherry Jean (Jack) Roof, Mineral Bluff, GA; Robby (Kathy) Nichols, Delmar, NY; Lucas (Miranda) Roof, Mineral Bluff, GA; Special great grandchildren; Henry James and Stella Jane Nichols, Lila Quinn Roof.

Mary Ellen’s surviving siblings include; Melvin (Ulean) Harper, Mineral Bluff, GA; Charles Harper, Cleveland, TN; Lillian(George) Bailey, Mineral Bluff, GA. Preceded in death; Margie Kirkland, Elsie Harper, and Vivian Henson.

Mary Ellen’s hobbies included gardening, reading, and cooking for her family. She always had the loveliest flowers on her block.

Mary Ellen was a member of The Brainerd Baptist Church for thirty-six years. She treasured her church family, Bethany Sunday School Class. Also, she kept in touch with her high school classmates.

Mary Ellen’s family appreciates the Memorial Hospital nurses, doctors, and therapists who took such wonderful care of their mother.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm on Friday, March 4th at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, TN.
