

Mary Alice Peters, age 95, of Alexian Village, Signal Mountain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was born in Moss Point, Mississippi on September 1, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Homer H. Webb. She graduated from Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi and Mississippi Woman's College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi after teaching in Weir, Mississippi, for two years. She married Mouzon Peters and moved to Chattanooga in 1940. During the war years she returned to Mississippi and taught at Hinds Jr. College and Forest County High School while Mouzon served his country at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.
She joined the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga in 1940. She was a charter member of the Mary Sunday School Class. She left the class and taught in the Bales Class for about 20 years. She was active in WMU and was mission chairman in her group for many years.
She was a member of the Belvoir Garden Club and the Lookout Mountain Beautiful Garden Club. In 1960 she went back to teaching and taught at Henry L. Barger for ten years; The Bright School for eleven years and Lookout Mountain Elementary School for one year. During her teaching years she was active in AAUW serving as president and other offices during that time. She retired from teaching in 1983.
She lost her husband, Mouzon in 1984 in Portugal while on a golfing vacation and was also preceded in death by sister, Ruth Webb James and brother Homer Hendon Webb, Jr. both of Mississippi and Rev. Charles A. Webb of Florida.
She leaves her beloved daughter Sandra, her son-in-law Douglas Gilman Warner; two granddaughters, Talley Warner Carroll and her husband Daniel Wesley Carroll, and Kate Gilman Warner; two great grandchildren, Margaret Reed Carroll and Douglas Wesley Carroll all of Lookout Mountain, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11:30 AM in the McEwen Chapel with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Church. Active pallbearers Doug Warner, Dan Carroll, Wes Carroll, Porter Warner, III, and Bob Stewart Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bales Sunday School Class. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foreign Missions offering at First Baptist Church, 401, Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402 or to a favorite charity.
