Nancy Ann Brady Womack passed from life through death to gloriously abundant life on Saturday, November 9, 2024 with her precious family by her side. She leaves behind Terry, her devoted husband of 54 years, two sons and a daughter-in-love, Todd (Katie) and Chris and six grandchildren, Laura Kate, Rebekah, John, Andrew, Marshall and Madelyn to celebrate her life of service and encouragement.
Born April 16, 1949, Nancy was the third child of the late Bouldin and Shirley Brady of Spencer, Tennessee. Raised on their farm on Turkey Scratch Road, she and her three siblings, Hugh (Ann), Mary Grace (Jim) and John (Debbie) all learned to care for farm animals, raise a garden, pick apples, peaches and cherries and relish the simple pleasures of life.
Nancy was the salutatorian of the Van Buren High School class of 1967, attended Tennessee Tech University, Tomlison College and ultimately graduated in the 1971 class of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in home economics. She and Terry were married September 12, 1970 and graduated from college together soon after.
After graduation, Nancy served as a social worker until the birth of her first son. After her boys entered elementary school, Nancy earned a second bachelors and eventually a master’s degree in education and taught kindergarten and second grade in Catoosa County schools.
In 1989, Nancy was recruited to teach in the math department at Girl’s Preparatory School (GPS) where she taught 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade math to hundreds of students over more than 20 years. Known for her winsome and disarming smile (even when she had to give demerits) her girls loved her and she loved them.
Leading to and after retirement, Nancy and Terry traveled as extensively as possible throughout the United States and Europe while also helping care for their six grandchildren and their aging parents. Nancy was a decorator, had an eye for the smallest details, created culinary masterpieces for family and friends and, most importantly, loved fiercely.
More than anything, Nancy loved Jesus and every interaction with her exuded the joy of the Lord. She exemplified the commands to “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… and to love your neighbor as yourself,” and pointed everyone she encountered to Jesus through the way she lived her life.
Her family celebrates her life well lived and will honor her with the receiving of friends at Ridgedale Baptist Church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 16th. A Celebration of Nancy’s amazing life will follow at the church at 12 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville, GA on Friday November 15th at 2:00 pm.
Memorial contributions to Shepherd’s Arms Rescue Mission or Samaritan’s Purse are encouraged to be made in her honor.
