Edward Archie “Pete” Wingate, 73, of East Ridge passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021. He was a graduate of Central High School, Defense Language Institute and UTC. Pete was a founding member of the UTC Student Veterans’ Association. He spent 14 years in the U.S. Air Force and Tennessee Air National Guard. For over 20 years he served as Chairman of the East Ridge Library Board. Pete was a member of the American Legion Post 95. He was formerly employed by the Tennessee Department of Employment Security and Ace Hardware of East Ridge.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Wingate; son, Joe (Kim) Wingate; daughter, Heather Wingate; grandchildren, Lillian Pouncy, Luke Wingate, Will Wingate and Livi Kay Wingate; sister, Gayla Miles; nieces Rachel (Dustin) Cresswell and Lacey Miles; several great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1 PM Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Sterling Jetton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN.
