

Mrs. Wilbanks was born August 24, 1924 in Chattanooga, the daughter of the late Elgine Robert and Estelle Donaldson Thompson. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Louise Strong and Betty Schack. She attended the Girls Preparatory School and the University of Chattanooga. She was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity.
She was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church where she ran the Grace Bookstore for more than ten years and a current member of St. Mary’s Chapel in Sewanee where she is an oblate in the Order of the Sisters of St. Mary.
Interested in clay sculpture, she worked in the studio of Barbara Hughes of Sewanee for several years, and had works on display there and at the Alexian Village where she was a resident at the time of her death.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. James L. Wilbanks, Sr. of Signal Mountain, TN; son, James L. Wilbanks Jr. of Rising Fawn, GA; daughters, Deborah Treat Pflager of Waynesboro, PA, and Patricia Tavia Wilbanks of Chattanooga; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, July 30, 2010 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 12 PM Noon on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church (630 Mississippi Avenue, TN 37377) with Rev. Kathryn C. Mathewson and Rev. George L. Choyce officiating
Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Mary, 1100 St. Mary’s Lane, Sewanee, TN 37350, in lieu of flowers.
