Arlene Inga Kirkwood

She was born in Valejo, California, on May 6, 1953, a daughter to the late Ernest Roberts and Asta Magnusdottir. Arlene was a graduate of Slatington High School, class of 1972. She then went on to college at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) for her teaching degree. Upon graduation Arlene started her career with the East Stroudsburg school system as a 5th grade teacher at Smithfield Elementary School. She had a love and deep passion for teaching and the children that touched her life.

She was a loving wife and mother; she enjoyed gardening, teaching and exercising. Arlene was an active member and deacon at the Church of the Mountain, in Delaware Water Gap. She also was an active member of the teachers union where she served as the secretary and treasurer.

Preceding her in death in addition to her father was a son: Cory Kirkwood who passed away March 8, 2006.

Surviving is her loving husband of 35 years Gary D. Kirkwood, of East Stroudsburg; her mother: Asta Roberts, of Slatington; daughter: Nicole Kirkwood, of Mount Laurel, NJ; two brothers: E. Hugh Roberts, of Florida and David T. Roberts, of Walnutport; a sister: Margo A. Roberts, of Slatington; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 12, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain, 106 Church lane, Delaware Water Gap with Rev. Bill Schram officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends may attend a public visitation on Friday April 11, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home Inc. at 27 Washington St. East Stroudsburg, PA.
