Bernice E. Thompson

Born in Boston, MA on February 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Earl Sr. and Agatha (Peobles) Hodgson. Bernice graduated from St. Jean the Baptiste High School, New York City, NY class of 1944. In 1957 she obtained a position with State Insurance Fund, New York City, NY as an Insurance underwriter. Bernice retired from that position in 2000 after 44 years of service. In 1995 she relocated to East Stroudsburg.

She was a member of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her husband of 14 years Lewis E. Thompson Sr. who passed away on January 11, 1959 and brothers, Joseph Hodgson and Earl Hodgson Jr.

Surviving are daughters, Bernadette Aruaz of Queens, NY, Brenda Thompson of Columbus, OH, Beverly Chisholm of the Bronx, NY, Belinda Woods of Baton Rouge, LA, and Barbara Thompson of Columbus, OH; sons, Lee Thompson of East Stroudsburg, and Lewis Thompson Jr. of Queens, NY; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg, Interment will be on Monday in Long Island National Cemetery Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY.

A public visitation will be held on Friday March 21, 2014 from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.
