Bessie Lou Boylan, 81, of Bushkill passed away on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at the Post-Acute Hospital in Scranton. She was the loving wife of the late Richard F. Boylan with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Bessie Lou was born January 22, 1934 in North Wildwood, NJ to the late David and Elizabeth (Howey) Beal.
Bessie was a great lady; she worked hard her whole life to provide for her children. She was born and raised in the Poconos and then relocated to Lakeland, FL for retirement. Being the hard working that she was, her retirement did not last long as she began working as a cook in the Polk County Public School cafeteria. She loved working to prepare meals for the children; she even received a plaque acknowledging her years of service. She was also very involved with the Local reformed Lutheran Church. She was artistic and creative, when she was not working; she enjoyed painting, jewelry making, and cooking. No one can cook like Bessie, she never followed recipes, just a little bit of everything mixed in a pot, made to taste, and that was Bessie.
Left to cherish her memory is her children: Karen Gerlich and her husband David, of Bushkill and Jospeh Boylan Sr. and his wife Kathy of Bud Lake, NJ; her four grandchildren: Melissa Volper and her husband Joe of Marshalls Creek, David Gerlich Jr. and his wife Jenn, of Henryville, Joseph Boylan Jr. and Kayla Boylan, both of Bud Lake, NJ; and two grandchildren: Joseph Boylan III and Makayla Gerlich.
In addition to her husband, she has been preceded in death by her two sons: Richard F. Boylan Jr. and John Douglas Boylan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 9 to 10:30am followed by a memorial service at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, Officiated by Pastor John Harding of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow at the Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave East Hanover, NJ 07936.
