Gloria “Sue” Jean Hughes, 64, of East Stroudsburg passed away September 9, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Mahlon Gene Hughes; they shared 45 years of marriage together.
Sue was born on Nov. 30 1950 to the late Julius and Madeline (Ross) Harrison of East Stroudsburg.
After graduating East Stroudsburg High School, Sue became a dietician for a local assisted living facility where she served residents for over 37 years. She worked there through many changes, and retired from the current establishment known as Golden Living Center Stroud. Sue was a member of the VFW Post #2540 Auxiliary and St. Matthews’s Roman Catholic Church. She loved to cook, and entertain her guests. She called everyone family, no matter the distance between you, or how often she saw you, you were family to Sue. You could always count on her house smelling like delicious food ready to be served. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her sidekick, Martha. She touched so many lives with her kindness, and love. She will be sincerely missed.
In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by her daughters: Yvonne Booth and her husband Daniel, Colleen Hughes, and Kimberly Hughes, all of East Stroudsburg; her brothers: Robert Harrison and his wife Barbara, of Saylorsburg and Walter Harrison and his wife Kelly, of East Stroudsburg; her sister Leslie Dietz and her husband Brian of East Stroudsburg, her nieces Tammy, Chelby, Julie, and Melissa; and nephews Harold (Buddy), and Brian; along with many more. Sue also leaves behind her grand daughter Kaitlyn Elizabeth Booth whom she treasured. The family would like to give a special, heartfelt thank you to the nurses in our family Tammy VanBuskirk and Gabrielle Gizzo for being there to the end. Also to Nancy Widmer who was by her side, and took loving care of her throughout.
In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her sister Rosemary Van Buskirk.
