Grace Price passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving daughter on Thursday, August 30, 2012, following a brave battle with Parkinson's Disease compounded by a very serious pressure ulcer.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Price, who passed away in May, 1989, and with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Geneva County, Alabama, Grace was the youngest daughter of Amos Adams and Lula Mae [Hughes] Adams. Of her eight siblings, only two remain: her younger brothers Delmer and Virgil, both of De Funiak Springs, Florida.
Mrs. Price attended Laurel Hill High School where she was an avid member of the girls' basketball team. She spent most of her childhood years in Florida.
Grace met her husband, who was in the Army Air Corps in church, and, after a whirlwind romance, they married and relocated to NJ where they resided for many years before moving to the Poconos.
As a young wife and mother, Grace was a stay-at-home Mom and spent many hours baking apple, cherry and peach pies, and her famous apple turnovers, as well as canning fruits and vegetables, as there were many fruit trees on their property and she and her husband loved to garden. She also stayed involved with her children's schools and church schools.
She later went to work for M&M candies in Hackettstown, for 18 years, before retiring to the Poconos.
She was a member of Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church years ago, where she served as a Deacon, and still enjoyed getting together "with the girls" for lunch.
More recently she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain in Delaware Water Gap. She was one of the Church Ladies and really enjoyed the period of time when they got together to hand paint cards for sale at the free summer concerts.
Grace loved going to the casino once a week, trips to Atlantic City, travel with Jack and friends, and evenings spent at the Pocono Singles dances. But perhaps what made her happiest was having her family around her.
Besides her two brothers, Grace leaves behind her daughter, Judy Sullivan, of Bartonsville, and her husband, Jim, son, Tom Price, of Rockville, MD, and wife, Becki Price, grandson, Christopher Nagy of Neptune, NJ, and great-grandson, Kyle, grandson, Kevin, and wife, Dawn of Bradley Beach, NJ, and loving companion and friend of 17 years, Jack Shaffer, of East Stroudsburg, PA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
We'll miss you, Mom. You showed us all what it means to pass on with grace.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Bill Schram, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hainesburg Cemetery, Rt. 94, Hainesburg, NJ.
A Public visitation will be on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St, East Stroudsburg, 18301 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, PA, 18301, where online condolences can be made at www.lantermanallenfh.com.
