March 29, 1935 – February 21, 2022
Retired physician and writer Harold James Pascal ended his final trip around the sun on February 21, 2022 following a brief and sudden illness at the age of 86.
Hal led an adventurous and full life. He was born in New York City in 1935 to John and Catherine Pascal and was raised there with his five brothers. He was a very talented athlete and played basketball for his undergraduate alma mater St. John’s University (NYC) during his college years. He completed a PH.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami in Florida and became an assistant professor of psychology on the faculty of his beloved St. John’s University. Along the way he published two books and contributed research articles to several professional journals. He then went on to a second career after earning his MD and practiced psychiatry in the Pocono Mountain area for over 30 years.
Hal was a beloved father and grandfather. Lisa (Robert Klinglesmith), Mark, Lawrence, Amanda, Catherine, Benjamin and Paige had the privilege of calling him Dad. He was “Grandpa Hal” to his grandchildren Emily and Jason (Lisa). His youngest grandson Demarcus (Amanda) christened him Pop-Pop. He was kind, caring, generous and fun. He always saw our potential and encouraged all of us to reach for the stars. Fond memories include the crazy adventures with his boat, winter skiing, and trips to Canada and the Bahamas.
Hal was larger than life and is deeply missed by all who loved him, especially his wife Terese who adored him and was truly his perfect partner. His brothers Jack (Diana), Robert (Betty) and Lawrence (Patricia) along with many nieces and nephews also join in mourning. He is preceded in death by his first wife Diana Crain (2003) and brothers Bernard and Thomas.
