
Born in East Stroudsburg on July 6, 1950, he was a son to the late Earnest and Dorothy Rafferty Parton and resided in the East Stroudsburg area most of his life. John was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, class of 1968 and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge John was employed in the construction industry as an electrician.
He was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg and enjoyed watching Nascar and football and playing cards and reading.
Surviving are his sister, Marylou Smiley of East Stroudsburg; brothers, James Parton and his wife Audrey of Canadensis; and Donald Parton of Saylorsburg; niece Jennifer “Honey” Smiley, nephew John A. “Old Pal” Smiley, III, and his wife Carrie, great niece Autumn Smiley and great nephews Tyler and Connor Smiley, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church 85 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev, Dr. Edward C. Kimes Pastor, officiating. Interments with military honors will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect Street, East Stroudsburg.
Family and friends may gather at the church from 10:30 until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made in John’s memory to the Arthritis Foundation and/or Awsom Animal Shelter.
