Mary Teresa Werkheiser, 88, of East Stroudsburg, answered a call on Monday, March 23, from Our Lord and Savior who brought her home to eternal life when He said to her “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Mary has no more sorrows, no more pains, and certainly ran into the arms of Our Lord without any disease of Parkinson’s and saw Him clearly without blindness. After Mary places her crowns at Jesus’ feet, she will be in reunion with her family and friends who she has not seen in quite some time, including her husband, Kenneth Milton, who predeceased her on March 19, 2009 at which time they had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Born on September 5, 1926 in Easton, PA, Mary was the daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Zembach Dicker. She graduated from Easton Catholic High School in 1944 and then from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for many physicians and hospitals throughout her career, finally retiring from Pocono Medical Center in 1991.
Mary was a loving mother and friend, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her younger years, Mary was a natural artist who painted beautiful scenes from her childhood home area. She was also a compassionate nurse who would take the time to hold a dying patient’s hand to ease their fears and ensure them that they were not alone
.
After retiring, Mary enjoyed vacations with her husband and daughters, reading, being a Eucharistic minister for her church, and volunteering with the library. She touched the lives of many people and will be remembered as being the biggest kid at Christmas gifting hand painted ceramic gifts that she made for her family and always having room for ice-cream!
Mary is survived by her five daughters: Judy Hathaway and companion, Barrie Leigh, of Abingdon MD, Jill Werkheiser of East Stroudsburg, Mary Ann Rodriguez of Stroudsburg, Heidi Schwab and husband Gerry, of Medford, N.J., and Kim Wyler and husband Gary, of Tafton.
