

Arthur James Flynn, Jr. was born in Cumberland, Maryland April 15th, 1926. During the next 16 years Arthur’s parents, Arthur Sr. and Virginia, along with his younger brother, Leo and his sister, Virginia, lived in Maryland, West Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania, moving every few years as Arthur Sr. was employed by the Federal Power Commission. He moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1942 and graduated from College High in 1944. It was in Bartlesville that he met the love of his life, Tommy Lou Campbell. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the United States Navy. Following his service in the Navy, Arthur attended Duke University where he graduated in 1947 with degrees in Political Science and History, and later received his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma in 1950.
Arthur’s professional career began in 1951 as an attorney with the Federal Land Bank in Wichita, Kansas, where his and Tommy Lou’s first son, Steve, was born. In 1952, he moved to Tulsa as an attorney with Deep Rock Oil. It was in Tulsa where their second son, Mike, and daughter, Peggy, were born. In 1955, Arthur moved his family to Oklahoma City where he joined Kerr McGee Corporation serving in various capacities until his retirement in 1988.
While in Oklahoma City, balancing family and career, Arthur coordinated and coached little league baseball, helped organize and supervise camping trips for the Camp Fire Girls and endured endless piano practices and recitals. He also assisted with the development and promotion of the American Institute of Discussion and served many years on the board of the Salvation Army. On retirement, Arthur and Tommy Lou spent several years traveling the country in their trailer searching for the perfect retirement location. They settled on Cedaredge, Colorado for a 15 year vacation pursuing their interests in golf, fishing, art, cooking, civic service (Rotary Club and Cedaredge Tree Board), friends and family. In 2006, Arthur and Tommy Lou returned to Edmond to enjoy daily life with their family.
Arthur is survived by Tommy Lou, his wife of 67 years; his sister Virginia Bybee and husband John of Walnut Creek, California; his three children Stephen Flynn and wife Christi of Houston, Texas, Michael Flynn and wife Jo of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Peggy and husband Michael Rubenstein of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren Chris Flynn, Ryan Flynn and wife Dionne, Jessica Brown, Patrick Flynn and wife Katie, Jonathan Rubenstein, Abby Rubenstein, and Megan Rubenstein; great grandchildren Daniel Flynn, Bailey Flynn, Deante Brown, Daylin Brown, Sienna Flynn, Jaida Brown, and Canon Flynn.
Arthur James Flynn, Jr. passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at the age of 89. Arthur’s devotion to family and friends and his warm sense of humor will always be remembered and cherished.
Arthur’s family would like to thank his caregivers Essie Green, Robert Samaniego, Kosha Clayton and Jona Walker. Their loving care and concern will forever be appreciated.
A memorial celebration will be held at Baggerley Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, please remember the American Heart Association.
