She touched many lives with her gentle spirit and positive outlook on life. She gently passed while in the presence and warmth of her family.
Betty was born in Chickasha, OK on December 26, 1935, to father Joe Campbell Lenochan and Louise Sipe Lenochan Smith. Betty was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation. She graduated from Edmond High School. Betty married her high school sweet heart and the love of her life, Sam Winn, on October 18, 1953; they were married for 45 years.
Betty began her work career at John A. Brown’s Department Store, in Oklahoma City, OK. She worked as a secretary at Thompson Book and Supply before retiring as a secretary for the Psychometrist Department in the Edmond Public Schools after 17 years. Betty also loved being the wife of a school principal and enjoyed her life in the education world immensely. Betty had been a member of The First Christian Church for over 70 years, baptized in 1947 at the First Christian Church of Edmond.
Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Sammy and Cheryl Winn, of Henderson, NV, daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanie and Danny Pursell of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kristin and Joe Atwood, of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren and two grandchildren-in-laws: Emily, LaRee, Charles and Olivia Winn, Julie and her husband John Rogers and DJ and his wife Carolyn Pursell, and Samuel Atwood. Psychometrist Four great-grandchildren: Gabby and Reagan Rogers and Hayes and Archer Pursell. Her sister and brother-in-law Sue and Charles Putman and brother and sister-in-law Joe Clyde and Cheryl Lenochan.
Betty is proceeded in death by her husband Charles Sanford “Sam” Winn (April 20, 1998) father Joe Lenochan, mother Louise Sipe Lenochan Smith, maternal grandparents Rod and Elsie Sipe, paternal grandparents, Joe Lenochan and Mae Anna Fryrear Lenochan.
Betty loved her family and particularly loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She enjoyed bible studies and sharing her fellowship with others. She was an incredible host and treasured guests coming to visit. She enjoyed painting, especially when it was something Sam had carved or created in his shop. Betty loved to travel, camp, go on new adventures and experience life with her family and many dear friends. She could often be found bird watching and was able to tell you many facts about all the species she came across. She was an outstanding cook and loved sharing new recipes and cooking techniques with her family. She was known to make new recipes and modify an old until it reached perfection; many could attest she had perfected the art of making caramels. Her most cherished roles were that of a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and servant of the Lord.
