Catherine Joan McKinney Age 53 of Edmond Oklahoma went to be with our Lord July 29, 2010. Cathy was born to Robert Temple and Helen (Landry) Temple in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts on July 24, 1957. Cathy moved to Oklahoma in 1978 to be with her mother and continue her education. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1982 with a B.A. in Journalism/Advertising with a Minor in Business Administration/Marketing. Cathy used her talents of organizing, planning, and reporting skills on medical advances, events and medical professionals, and her compassion and education to always help others in every venture she encountered. This was evident by the organizations she belonged to, including: The Arthritis Foundation - Associate Board Member since 2000, Central Oklahoma Turning Point, Oklahoma Hospital Association - Public Relations Society, Oklahoma Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, Association of American Women in Communications. Her latest passion was as public relations chair of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, which had wanted her to be president however, she declined.
Cathy created awareness for many as she continually developed her career starting with Adsociates, Inc. after graduation. She was always looking to improve what she could offer and was an asset to the following employers: Junior Achievement, Journal Record Newspaper, Carter Healthcare, Bone & Joint Hospital, McBride Clinic, Inc. and last but not least she started in January 2007 as the Marketing Coordinator in the Public Affairs Unit for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.
Cathy married William McKinney in Edmond, OK on June 28, 1980, and will be greatly missed by Bill and son Jonathan Riley McKinney. In addition, she leaves a permanent imprint on the hearts of her sister Nancy and husband Louie Welch, Brother Mike and wife Linda, nieces and nephews of Edmond, Wilburn White, Paul Welch, Michael, and Kelly Temple and numerous others. Cathy also held a special place in her heart for cousins Deanna, Michael (Sarge), McKella, Josh and T.J. and Aunt Carol Ann. Cathy touched the lives of many and she shall never be forgotten for her strength and compassion.
If the animal world could talk they too would praise and thank Cathy for all her rescues of cats and dogs and even a lost parakeet! This admiration was clearly demonstrated by “Captain Ripley” of Team Cathy, who deeply misses her.
“It’s Official everybody loved her!”
Cathy shall be reunited with her mother, father, Brother Bobby, niece Jill to the right hand side of our Lord Jesus Christ. She said when interviewed by James Coburn of the Edmond Sun “I know that God has bigger plans for me,” as such she signed her letters “Goodbye for Now!”
