

David Paul Houck went home to be with the Lord and his Heavenly family on March 12, 2015. He was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Pittsburg, Kansas. He married Wanda Hiller on Oct. 25, 1975, at Osage Church of the Brethren in McCune, KS.
David graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg, May 1963, with a Bachelor of Science degree. During the early ‘60s, he was an announcer on KOAM Radio in Pittsburg. In 1975, David earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration, concentrating on health services, from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In 1984 and 1985, he earned Master of Science degrees in Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene from Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg.
David served as a reservist in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked for over 25 years for several companies as a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional.
Retirement, over the last five years, found him ever busy with yard work, tree trimming, planting, and gardening. He enjoyed traveling with Wanda and their daughter, Gretchen, on many vacations. He was a generous, proud and loving dad.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John & Lola (Hindman) Houck, and brother, John Robert “Bob” Houck. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Gretchen Lawless & husband Nick of Shawnee, KS; nephews, Harold Houck & family of Topeka, KS, and Randy Houck of Arma, KS; niece, Tammy Talbott & family of Olive Branch, MS; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Houck of Franklin, KS; and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be 10:30 am, Monday, March 23, 2015, at Osage Church of the Brethren, McCune, KS, (14 miles west of Pittsburg) 896 S 80th St, McCune, KS 66753. Cremation; final resting place Osage Cemetery.
