Doris Irene Stephens Puckett passed away Jan. 6, 2014. She was 95. Doris was born April 2, 1918, in Logan County. She graduated from Marshall High School, where she played basketball and was in the choir. She married Cheatham Tillman “C.T.” Puckett and had six children. Doris was a voracious reader, had a not so secret crush on Tom Selleck, was a fabulous cook, embroidery guru and a creative seamstress who made her own patterns out of newspaper. She could make culinary art out of any ingredient - Velveeta slices, Peeps, sprinkles, etc. Doris kept a picture album titled “Desserts I Love” because why wouldn’t you? But Doris was tough, too. She delivered three of her six children at home, with only a bit of assistance from her husband. She maintained the family’s farm in Wilburton, Okla., battling snakes, ticks, and other varmints. Doris traveled the world. From London, Belgium, Alaska and beyond, Doris was always ready for fun and adventure. In Rome, Doris put on the Pope’s robes and waved at the crowd from his balcony in Vatican City. She never drove a car, but she did buy one once “just in case.” She captained the DVR and knew more celebrity news than anyone. The world would have been better off if only Hollywood had asked for her script ideas or costume suggestions. Everyone called her Grammy, even people she just met. Doris‘ home was one that all her children and grandchildren’s friends would flock, creating a home away from home for many. Grammy was charming and hilarious, and she left her loved ones with many lessons: Decorate and talk to your plants. Work your core. Dance even if you’re in a chair. Take photos and star in them, too. “Whatever” is the perfect response for most scenarios. Don’t pass up a chance to go to Target or to see the Weiner Mobile. Never skip dessert. Her last bit of advice: “Have a lot of fun for me!” She is preceded in death by her parents, Mark Stephens and Irene Stephens Fox; husband Cheatham Tillman Puckett; brother Emil Stephens; and son Stephen R. Puckett. She is survived by five children: daughter Doris Ann Smith and husband Bill, daughter Konnie Stanfill and husband Chuck, daughter Linda Dotson and husband Bob, daughter Vicki Patton and husband Mark, and son Mark Wayne Puckett; four grandchildren: granddaughter Kristi Stanfill, granddaughter Kelli Dupuy and husband Tre, granddaughter Amy Wogan and husband Adam, grandson Blake Patton and fiancée Katie McDonnell; and three great-grandchildren: great-grandson Aden Wogan and great-granddaughters Zoe Puckett Wogan and Kate Irene Dupuy. Doris’s celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 S Broadway in Edmond. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sunbeam Family Services (www.sunbeamfamilyservices.org - 616 NW 21st Street, OKC, OK 73103) and Bethesda, Inc. (www.bethesdaok.org - 1181 E.
