Dorothy Louise Nelson

Dorothy was born December 28, 1931 in McGregor, Texas to D.D. and Alma (Bartles) Sowders. Early education was in McGregor and the family relocated to Artesia, NM when she was a teenager.

On September 1, 1951 she married H.R. Bob (Hoopie) Nelson in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Dorothy and Hoopie relocated to West Texas where they welcomed two sons Doug and Kyle.

In 1971 the family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. Dorothy started working for the Edmond Police Department as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. She left in 1979 to work in the family business D+B Yamaha. She returned to the city of Edmond in 1987 and was there until 2018.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband H.R. Bob (Hoopie) Nelson, her parents D.D and Alma Sowders, brother and sister in law Vernon and Mary Sowders, granddaughter Beth Nelson and nephews Chuck and Dave Sowders.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Doug Nelson (Kathy) and Kyle Nelson (Cristie) both of Edmond. Five grandchildren Heather Thomas (Bret), Mary Freedle (Thomas), Kari Nelson, Kylie Nelson (Nich), and Kelsey Johnson (Dylan). 10 great grandchildren Austin Nelson (Katy), Trey Nelson, Logan Ainsworth, Kennadi Freedle, Alan Freedle, Kyler Thomas, Easton Thomas, Blakely Land, Jay Land, Vivian Land. 1 great great granddaughter Scarlett Nelson and also niece Susy Sowders Love and Nephew Mike Sowders.

She lived life to the fullest and lived every day for the Lord. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.

A funeral service will occur Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home.
