Eugene Thomas

Eugene Douglas Thomas died on July 5, 2013 at the age of 89 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born May 24, 1924 to John Wesley and Mary Ellen Thomas on the Thomas Farm. He had one brother and six sisters. Eugene had lived in Edmond with his wife Norma Lee Jacks for 35 years. They were married for 68 years. He was a veteran of WWII and participated in several crucial battles near the end of the war. Gene was a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. While managing the CherokeeClub Ranch during the drought of the fifties, he successfully produced crops with irrigation and was named Outstanding Young Farmer by Tulsa Area Jaycees. Gene retired from Sun Oil Company after 14 years of work. He also spent 16 years with Helmerich and Payne Oil Company. Gene was always interested in mechanical things and in his lifetime, also made several pieces of wooden furniture. He is survived by his wife, Norma Lee; his daughters, Deborah Abedi of Edmond, and Nancy Thomas-Haskins and her husband Stanley Haskins of Tyler, TX. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Abbas Abedi and Masooma Abedi, both of Karachi, Pakistan; two sisters, Glenda Sue Berch of Tecumseh, and Dixie Ranes of Macomb; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later time.
